“We don’t even have to ask for it,” Barry said. They let us know, ‘listen, we have one here all ready to go for you.’
Sue McFarlane, Independent Supply Surrey’s Profit Center Manager said the company loved that Hilltop’s furnace give-away was a grassroots initiative.
“It wasn’t just them giving away something for free, it was actually them looking for somebody in need so that we could all work together to really help out the community,” she added.
Typically, Hilltop has a story published in a local newspaper, which is successful at drumming up interest from people in the community, leading to nominations for worthy recipients of the furnace.
Generally, it involves a person or family in some form of financial strain.
“This year was a different story,” said Barry. “We had one of our technicians at someone’s house and this lady recently lost her husband, she was in a tough situation. So, the technician came back to us and said ‘you know what? I want to nominate this person.’ So, we got the furnace in the next day.”
Beyond the furnace donation and installation, Hilltop is committed to the local sports scene, as well. The company has sponsored area softball teams, softball tournaments and some junior hockey teams.
Supporting the community is important to the company.
“They help us put food on the table by giving us their business,” said Barry. “We are just trying to give back.”
Hilltop’s relationship with Independent Supply is important.
“Their customer support is amazing,” said Barry. “If there’s an issue, they are on it right away. No need to wait for weeks for parts or update dates on products. They offer regular training classes to keep our techs up to date with technology.”

If I do come across a rare problem, they are on it right away, helping me right away figuring out what’s going wrong. Our customers are not left for a long period of time without heat or without cooling.”
