From the Desk of Carolyn…

August 3, 2021

It is time once again for a brief update from the MCAS office. This month we say goodbye to Nicole Kelly our Member Services Coordinator. Nicole was only with the MCAS for two years, but she has left her mark through the exceptional work she has done on behalf of the membership. We will miss her but wish her well as she embarks on the next phase of her career.

I am delighted to announce that Roma Green will be filling the role of Member Services Coordinator beginning on September 7th.  Roma comes to the MCAS with a strong background in management and education. Members who are golfing on August 12th will have the opportunity to meet Roma as she has asked to come out for the day to meet the members.

Staff has been busy prepping for our Ron Young Memorial Golf Tournament which will take place on August 12 at Moon Lake Golf and Country Club.  Golfers are asked to watch for an email from the MCAS this week that will provide some important details about the tournament.  If you are still looking to golf, we still have spaces available in our MCAS South Tournament that will take place on September 9th in Deer Valley.

We have been working the last few weeks to develop our new Liaison Committee. Based on the model that has been developed by our colleagues at the Electrical Contractors Association of Saskatchewan we are looking forward to developing a diverse committee that will discuss the issues impacting our industry. As we finalize the composition of the committee and set the date and agenda for the first meeting, I will provide regular updates to the membership to keep you well informed.

For the past year I have been a member of the SCA Advisory Council Investment Attraction Working Group.  The group was given the mandate to develop recommendations to consider with respect to how Saskatchewan can attract private sector investment. I have to say that being a part of this group has been an eye opener. I was surprised to learn of the many obstacles that stand in the way of attracting investment into the province.  Moving forward this fall, the group has invited partner associations to join in the discussions and this will only strengthen our ability to find and explore ways in which to attract investment to our province.

On the Education front you will see in the newsletter this month that the MCAS Scholarship as well as the Richard McKeagan Industry Scholarship Series are now accepting applications. Please pass this information along to any employees who may be eligible.

As always, please reach out your MCAS office if there are any concerns or issues. We are here to serve the membership.
