The HRAI Manufacturers Division is supporting an important industry-led initiative as part of the CRN* Consortium.  Compliance with the CRN process is expensive for manufacturers and can have a detrimental effect on industry and consumers alike, particularly because current requirements stipulate that manufacturers must register in each province.

Representatives from the Canadian Gas Association (CGA) are managing this project and a consultant has been retained by the consortium. A white paper is being prepared which should be completed within the next few months. A strategic plan will follow that will address how each member of the consortium can gather support from Federal and Provincial Governments.

The end goal is to reduce the burden on the industry without compromising public safety.  This effort will hopefully be a catalyst for a positive reform of the CRN system. We are off to a good start.  The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is aware of this consortium, as is the National Public Safety Planning Advisory Committee (NPSPAC).
