I am nominating: Amy Thomas, Junior Buyer, Waterloo Region District School Board
Nominated by: Rebecca Witteman, Procurement Specialist – Large Capital Construction Projects, Waterloo Region District School Board
It is with great pleasure and pride that I nominate Amy Thomas, Junior Buyer, Waterloo Region District School Board, as a Superstar Procurement Newbie.
Recently, Amy stepped into a new role as Junior Buyer with confidence and passion. She brings with her a new perspective on procurement from a different lens. Her previous role, a former client of Procurement Services, and unbeknownst to her, has prepared her for this new opportunity as a procurement professional. She came into our department and hit the ground running using her experience and working knowledge of procurement processes and policies, including bids solicitations, sourcing, risk avoidance, supplier and contract management.
On the job for less than 2 weeks, she jumped at the opportunity to represent our department in a meeting with a client group. Afterwards, she debriefed us on how it went; we were flabbergasted. She represented our team as a true professional as if she’s been doing it for years. A few words that come to mind are confident, well-spoken, approachable, positive, natural leader, common sense, and customer focus.
Amy’s passion shines every day through curiosity and interest, by asking questions, making notes, researching, and volunteering for anything and everything. She takes every opportunity to advance, and I have no doubts she will continue to grow and make a difference in the world of Procurement.
