Web-based technology can support police leaders searching for greater efficiencies and streamlining operations when faced with shrinking budgets. A new software solution from Hexagon Safety & Infrastructure features capabilities beyond traditional records management systems (RMS), empowering agencies to use field personnel more effectively and with better efficiency.

Hexagon’s inPURSUIT WebRMS uses secure browser or web-based RMS technology. There's no need to load software on local workstations or to update and upgrade software versions. An end user simply needs a standard Web browser and access to the internet.

The application can be deployed in a couple of ways. First, as an on-premise application, inherent to an agency's secured network, thereby giving SSL-secured connectivity or, deployed to a cloud environment. Hexagon will be hosting a free webinar to demonstrate WebRMS’ capabilities on April 19. The link to register for the webinar is at the bottom of this article.

As a cloud-deployable records system designed specifically for browser delivery, WebRMS is simple to learn and use. It allows for easy retrieval of records by field staff and supervisors whether it be through desktops on the agency's network within the precinct or headquarters or remotely from the field through laptops, tablets, and other mobile devices. WebRMS also delivers a centrally-administered system and requires no client software to be installed.

Public safety organizations in the U.S. have been using WebRMS for several years and the application is now available for law enforcement agencies, worldwide. In Canada, it is available in both English and French languages.

Whether for single or multi-agency use, WebRMS can handle all facets of law enforcement operations and administration, including incident response, traffic stops, field interviews, casework, investigations, prisoner management, crime analysis, property and evidence, asset and fleet management, human resources, reporting, and many other functions. In addition, the solution integrates multimedia, such as mug shots, images, videos or document workflows.

inPURSUIT WebRMS offers an extremely flexible, scalable, and configurable solution that supports future expansion and investment longevity. Enhanced functionality and capabilities include:

- Easy to use customization and configuration utilities that ensure the solution can be simply configured to meet agency data capture requirements
- Integration of either Hexagon or third-party computer-aided dispatch
- Automated, real-time records alerts that can be sent within WebRMS, by email, or through other notification applications
- Alert triggers to support variables across modules
- Duplicate name or vehicle ID checks
- Robust and flexible multi-agency configuration to support information sharing
- Full CCJS UCR 2.2 compliance with integrated validation rules

Jamie Algatt, product manager and owner of inPURSUIT Analytics, says the automatic notification feature is what distinguishes WebRMS. Historically, users were required to conduct searches or generate reports to discover data. Now, users are pro-actively notified as information is collected or changes throughout the course of an investigation. For example, entering data consisting of a simple term, nickname, or dollar amount in a report can be captured at the street level, alerting specialized units such as major crime or organized crime units. "It’s a huge differentiator for the industry," he says.

Economic forces influencing the future of policing require police leaders to search for greater efficiencies in operations and administration. Achieving operational excellence, combined with a lower long-term cost of ownership, can include the adoption of a web-based, cloud-deployable RMS. WebRMS offers a world-class information management system for law enforcement agencies in Canada.
