On April 13th, 2020, Premier Ford announced that he indicated to extend the provincial state of emergency by 28 days.  The provincial legislation will sit on Tuesday, April 14 in order to extend the emergency act until May 12th.

This is the second extension of the state of emergency which was ordered on March 17 for 14 days and extended by an additional 14 days on March 31st.  Extending the state of emergency further requires a vote by the provincial legislature.  The vote will occur on April 14th.

In addition, on April 11th, the province extended all emergency orders that have been put in place to-date under s.7.0.2 (4) of the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act until April 23, 2020 in its ongoing effort to stop the spread of COVID-19.

These are the relevant sectors impacted by the extended emergency orders:

  • Closure of non-essential workplaces,
  • Electricity pricing, and
  • Enforcement of orders,
