Earlier this month, AHRI and HRAI submitted joint comments to the Ontario Ministry of Energy (OME) in response to proposed amendments to the Ontario Energy Efficiency Regulations. The amendments pertained to motors, air conditioners, heat pumps, package terminal air conditioners, boilers, fireplaces, and commercial ice makers in an effort to align regulations with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and Natural Resources Canada.

AHRI and HRAI’s comments asked for clarification on large ACs and HPs, and noted a likely error for boilers.  Representatives from the Ministry responded to the comments, fully addressing the concerns by clarifying its intentions for the scope of all large AC and HP products to be consistent with DOE and NRCan, and expressing appreciation for catching the error in the boiler proposal.
