Yesterday (July 15), the Ontario government announced that, beginning immediately, design standards for new and renovated Long Term Care homes will include air conditioning.  The announcement was part of a broader decision by the government to invest $1.75 billion over the next five years in Long Term Care homes.

The government says they will “work with the long term care home sector to dedicate funding to ensure long-term care homes in need have working air conditioning.” HRAI has had a number of discussions with the provincial government about this initiative and will engage with Minister of Long Term Care Merrilee Fullerton to discuss how HRAI and the HVACR sector can assist in making the sought-after changes.
