On December 8, 2018, Amendment 16 to Canada’s Energy Efficiency Regulations was pre-published in the Canada Gazette, Part I , and the pre-publication initiates a 45-day comment period, which will end on January 22, 2019.

Amendment 16

  • Proposed amendments to the Energy Efficiency Regulations have been pre-published, along with a Regulatory Impact Analysis Statement.
  • Natural Resources Canada welcomes formal, written comments to nrcan.equipment-equipement.rncan@canada.ca at any point throughout the 45-day period and encourages stakeholders to submit comments as soon as possible, to allow for early analysis of any potential changes to the proposal to address concerns.

HVACR Products Covered in Amendment 16 include the following:

-       Central A/C’s and heat pumps (single and three-phase, with a rated capacity less than 65,000 Btu/h)

-       Single package vertical A/C’s and heat pumps

-       Chillers

-       Miscellaneous refrigeration products (residential coolers and combination cooler refrigeration products)

-       Refrigerated vending machines

-       Walk-in freezers and chillers

-       Commercial clean water pumps

HRAI and AHRI will gather comments from members, to submit on behalf of the industry. Stakeholders are encouraged to visit Natural Resources Canada’s website for more information and forward any comments to HRAI for consideration.
