On October 31, HRAI participated in a consultation hosted by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan): a “Space Heating R&D Roadmapping Workshop.”  The session focused on prioritizing R&D activities that will help improve technologies identified in the Market Transformation Strategies for Energy-Using Equipment in the Building Sector and move these products towards desired energy performance and cost targets over the short to medium term.

HRAI’s Director of Programs and Relations, Martin Luymes, along with a number of member manufacturers, participated in the session, which focused on research initiatives that could be considered for specific equipment, including cold climate air source heat pumps, gas-fired heat pumps as well as other technologies that can be deployed to help meet the federal government’s goal of achieving a greater than 100% energy performance rating for all space heating equipment by 2030.

The next step in NRCan’s market transformation consultations will be a session in January focused on labour force needs.
