As previously reported, HRAI has been engaged with Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) in a series of consultations on the federal government’s Market Transformation Strategies for Energy-Using Equipment in the Building Sector.  Building on previous discussions on the R&D needs of manufacturers, the most recent consultation, on February 7-8, focused on “market deployment challenges”, including specifically the labour force demands industry will face while transitioning to a low-carbon economy that will meet the federal government’s goal of achieving a greater than 100% energy performance rating for all space heating equipment by 2030.  HRAI’s Director of Programs and Relations, Martin Luymes, along with a number of HRAI member companies, participated in the session, which extended over two days.

NRCan expects to take the findings from these consultations and work them into a package of recommendations that will be delivered to the next Federal-Provincial Energy and Mines Ministers’ Conference in August, 2018.
