The Ministry of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISEDC) regulated requirements, under the Information Technology Equipment (including Digital Apparatus) Limits and Methods of Measurement to require that external thermostats meet the requirements of the standard known as ICES-03, Issue 6.

HRAI members, specifically thermostat manufacturers, were pleased to learn earlier this month that the Ministry issued a notice proposing the extension of the transition period applicable to all external thermostats sold, offered for sale, manufactured, imported, distributed or leased in the Canadian market to comply with the requirement under the standard ICES-003 from April 30, 2019, to December 31, 2019. This would be the second extension that would have been granted as a result of discussions with the Ministry, which would potentially allow manufacturers a few more years to run development, testing, compliance, sourcing, quality assurance and other activities before going to market.  Please note that product on retails shelves, in distributor branches or warehouses must all comply by the effective date.
