Ontario’s Ministry of Municipal Affairs has made interim amendments to the 2012 Ontario Building Code, coming into effect beginning July 1, 2017.

The summary of interim amendments is as follows:

- Retirement homes are now classified as a residential “C” occupancy with specific  construction standards.

- Specific construction requirements for two-unit houses (but does not apply to stacked  townhouse units)

  • With the interim amendments, the code now permits installation of combined or independent HVAC systems in two-unit houses under specific conditions (but does not apply to stacked townhouse units).
