Well over 100 members and guests joined HRAI at the Westin Toronto Airport Hotel in Mississauga, for a Symposium hosted by the Manufacturers Division on February 27th.

A strong line-up of speakers shared their insights on major developments that will affect the HVACR industry in Canada in the decades to come. The program included speakers from Natural Resources Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada, The Atmospheric Fund, Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI), the Independent Electricity System Operators (IESO) and the European Heat Pump Council (EHPC).

Some key messages included: addressing concerns about products qualifying under the  GreenON program and the Heating and Cooling Incentive Program; federal measures to decarbonize the building stock by 2050; the heat pump retrofit market potential in Toronto’s multi-residential buildings; federal regulations on the control of HFCs; flammable refrigerants research findings concerning flammability risks and impacts; the “aspirational goals” for the future of space heating and water heating in Canada; measures in the Pan-Canadian Framework for buildings and the long term strategy for heat pump deployment.
