HRAI’s President and CEO, Sandy MacLeod, recently wrote to Sandra Bishop, Director, Department of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour at the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to express HRAI’s support for an application to designate the trade of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic as compulsory.

The letter is in support of the positon of the Newfoundland and Labrador HVACR Trades Association who requested HRAI’s engagement.

The majority of provinces in Canada have already included the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic as a compulsory trade in the interest of public safety, consumer protection and the promotion of certification within the trade. HRAI believes that the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador designating this trade as compulsory, will promote and protect these values.

HRAI will continue to monitor this issue and update members on any progress.  For more information, contact Scott Papp, Manager, Membership & Divisional Programs at spapp@hrai.ca or 1-800-267-2231 ext. 233.
