On November 17th, HRAI staff Warren Heeley, Martin Luymes and Caroline Czajko met with a group of industry and government agency representatives from the Ukraine to discuss opportunities for opening up trade in Canada for Ukrainian companies.  The delegation included: Leonid Vitkin, Valentyna Yanovych and Liliia Krasokha of the Ukraine Ministry of Economic Development and Trade; Volodymyr Kovieshnikov of the National Accreditation Agency of the Ukraine; Hanna Lisina, Director General of the Ukraine National Body of Standardization; and Leonid Vorobei, First Deputy Director of the State Enterprise "Ukrmetrteststandart".

The meeting focused largely on the procedures for testing and certifying products to meet the needs of the Canadian market, and HRAI staff shared experience regarding standards issues relevant to the implementation of the trade agreement between Canada and Ukraine, specifically in relation to: standardization in the refrigeration equipment industry; the Canadian experience with developing domestic standards that harmonize with international requirements; and cooperation between trade associations like HRAI and government policy makers.
