On October 26, members of the International Council of Air-Conditioning, Refrigeration, and Heating Manufacturers Associations (ICARHMA) met in Tokyo for the organization’s Annual Meeting, hosted by the Japan Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industry Association (JRAIA).

HRAI President & CEO, Sandy MacLeod and HRAI Manufacturers Division Chair, Dennis Kozina (Emerson) participated on behalf of HRAI.

ICARHMA members discussed several global priorities, including the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol and other issues in their respective country. Keisho Ka, President of the Japan Air Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration News (JARN), joined the meeting for the Strategic Industry Symposium (SIS) portion of the agenda, which covered issues expected to “disrupt” the global HVACR industry in the next five-to ten-years. The issues most frequently listed by ICARHMA members included new refrigerants; climate change and the Kigali Amendment; Industry 4.0 (IoT and AI); HVACR workforce; industry consolidation; and system, building, and equipment energy efficiency. ICARHMA’s member associations represent manufacturers that produce 90 percent of the world’s heating, cooling, and water heating equipment.

Sandy MacLeod reported “This affiliation for HRAI allows us to be on the cutting edge of Global issues,” while Dennis Kozina said “It was interesting that many of the issues we face in Canada are also hot items in the rest of the world.” Both HRAI representatives agreed the Japanese hospitality was fantastic and meeting global HVACR colleagues allowed for great conversation.

The 2019 ICARHMA Annual Meeting will be hosted by AHRI, which will be held from August 5-7, 2019, in Boston, Mass.
