HRAI recently agreed to participate in an Advisory Council established by the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) Toronto in an effort to engage and inform its members and the Commercial Real Estate Industry in general on safe recovery and return to work processes following the COVID-19 containment measures. This committee will “provide some direction during a period of many unknowns and uncertainties with respect to the potential for the spread of infectious aerosols through the building HVAC system.”

HRAI’s VP of Government and Stakeholder Relations Martin Luymes is joined by a strong group of stakeholders and experts from academia, the engineering field, and of course the commercial real estate sector.  The committee includes:

  • Luke Leung, Director, Skidmore Owings & Merrill; Member of AHRAE Epidemic Task Force; Vice Chair, Environmental Health Committee, ASHRAE
  • Dr. Brian Fleck, Professor, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Alberta; Area of current research HVAC: “non-pharmaceutical intervention”
  • Dr. Jeff Siegel, Professor, Faculty of Civil and Mineral Engineering, University of Toronto; research focus on ventilation and air cleaning
  • Gary Summers, Partner & President, Crown Realty Partners
  • Sarah Clark, VP, QuadReal Property Group
  • Graham Leah, Director, Property Management Services, City of Toronto
  • Liviu Craiu-Botan, National Manager, Energy & Technical Services + Platform Services Team, Oxford properties Group
  • David Matarasso, Principal, Property Management, Bentall/GreenOak
  • Cosimo Commisso, Director, Portfolio Operations, The Cadillac Fairview Corporation
  • Brian Thompson, Manager, Healthy Environments, Toronto Public Health, City of Toronto
  • David Pignataro, Manager, Toronto Public Health, City of Toronto
  • Randall Rothbart, Partner, Solomon Rothbart Goodman LLP; BOMA Toronto Legal Counsel

While this group is expected to focus on the needs of the Toronto commercial market, HRAI intends to broaden the discussion (in partnership with BOMA and others) to include the entire country.
