Last year, Ontario’s Technical Standards and safety Authority (TSSA) revamped its approach to its three-year audit process for heating (fuels) contractors.  Among other things, the new expectations included a requirement for contractors to produce a significantly longer list of clients willing to be part of the review.  Contractors expressed concern about the new process, mostly about the added time and inconvenience it brought, especially for smaller companies.

HRAI agreed to help facilitate a discussion between a group of member contractors and TSSA on March 7th.  The meeting included a wide-ranging discussion of options to improve the process, including the idea of a permitting system that would allow TSSA to maintain its own records and to schedule audit-related site visits at its own discretion.  No commitments were made but there was an agreement to keep the dialogue going over the next few months before settling on and implementing a revised approach.
