On Wednesday, June 13, HRAI made a day of meetings with senior bureaucrats in Fredericton, New Brunswick.  HRAI was represented by General Manager Sandy MacLeod, Director of Programs and Relations Martin Luymes and local contractor board member John O’Keefe (Ultra Air).

The delegation met with senior representatives from the office of the Minister of Environment and Local Government (Andrew Harvey) and the Minister of Energy and Resource Development (Rick Doucet) to discuss the industry’s potential role in helping to further the province’s climate change goals.  They also met with Bob Martin, Assistant Deputy Minister in the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, to discuss the province’s plans to upgrade government buildings with energy efficiency upgrades.  They met with Hélène Bouchard, Deputy Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs to discuss concerns about ensuring interprovincial alignment on codes and standards and efficiency regulations.

Finally, they met with Gaëtan Thomas, President and CEO of NB Power, to explore partnership opportunities with the utility in the delivery of an expected $234 million investment in energy efficiency programs for the province (over the next five years).  Though HRAI remains concerned about how such programs might be approached (equipment rentals, utility procurement and price-setting), there were clear opportunities for collaboration so that members in the province will be sure to benefit from these expenditures.
