HRAI’s Careers Committee has teamed up with HRAI’s Golden Horseshoe Chapter to sponsor a contest in the Hamilton region aimed at engaging, educating and encouraging high school students exploring career opportunities in the Mechanical, Industrial, Technology, Construction, Science, Engineering, Math and Advanced Manufacturing Sectors.

The objective of the MITC contest is to assist in raising money for the trades and technology classroom budgets as well as to motivate students to work on hands-on projects.  High-school shop and technical programs have struggled with funding for materials, tools, consumables and personal protective equipment. This limits students’ ability to gain the most valuable learning experience from their technological education courses.

“While the contest is not HVACR specific, it supports exploring a career path in the skilled trades and this is something the committee is pleased to co-sponsor with the generous support of the Golden Horseshoe Chapter” stated Careers Committee Chair, Adam Wills.

The contest is a pilot program in partnership with KickAss Careers, the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program and the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board.
