On September 6, 2017, CSA posted the draft version of the new edition of C439 standard (Standard Laboratory Methods of Test for Rating the Performance of Heat/Energy-Recovery Ventilators) on their website for public review.

The public review period lasts for 60 days and is intended to provide industry stakeholders with an opportunity to review the draft and provide feedback and comments. The public review period ends on November 5, 2017.

The information below provides some of the key changes and updates that are made in the draft version of the new edition (but not limited to):

-        For low temperature testing, the new edition now requires test readings to be taken from the last 60 hrs of a 72-hrs test, instead of taking readings from the last 12 hrs in the previous edition.

-        The new standard provides suggested test procedures for fixed-bed regenerators in informative Annex A.

-        New performance metrics (e.g. ASRE, ATRE) are added

-        Some corrections/changes are made to calculation equations

The draft version of the new C439 standard is available at CSA Group’s public review website: http://publicreview.csa.ca/Home/Details/2711 (registration is required to view or comment on the draft). HRAI encourages members to review and comment on the draft.
