As previously reported, on May 23 HRAI participated in a stakeholder meeting with the Ontario College of Trades (OCOT) to discuss the current process for reviewing journeyperson-to-apprentice ratios and provide stakeholder advice regarding potential changes; to educate stakeholders on the review process and identify opportunities for further engagement; and to work with stakeholders towards a shared vision regarding the objectives and desired outcomes of future ratio reviews.

OCOT has compiled and summarized the May 23 discussions in a report, which will serve as the foundation of the College’s plan for conducting broader consultations. Click on these links to find the “What we heard” report  along with the presentation.

OCOT is now ready to proceed with broader consultations with stakeholders and the public to obtain input and feedback on specific policy questions. To ensure opportunities for stakeholders to participate, the College will be posting updates online for the duration of the review and consultations. The College will also soon be posting a consultation paper to provide context and give direction for those making written submissions.

Members should note that OCOT is holding regional consultation sessions across Ontario this summer.  Members may attend and provide feedback at these sessions.  Dates and locations scheduled so far are as follows:

  • Windsor (July 11)
  • Ottawa (July 12)
  • Thunder Bay (July 18)
  • Sudbury (July 19)
  • Mississauga (July 31)
  • Markham (Aug 1)
  • Kitchener (Aug 2)
