How Will the Canada-US Tariffs Battle Affect the HVACR and Plumbing Industry?

On May 31, 2018, the United States (U.S.) announced the imposition of tariffs on imports of steel and aluminum products from Canada. In response to this, Canada imposed its own countermeasures (surtaxes) against C$16.6 billion in imports of steel, aluminum, and other products from the U.S. These countermeasures became effective on July 1, 2018.

As if the protracted discussions around the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) over the past year weren’t confusing enough, these tariff measures and counter-measures have created a heightened level of concern for industries that rely on the free flow of goods and services across the Canada-US border.
