The Province of British Columbia has launched the CleanBC Building Innovation Fund to spur development of advanced technology and innovative low-carbon solutions in the BC building sector.

The purpose of the fund, administered through the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources, is to accelerate the availability and affordability of advanced technologies, construction processes, and building designs. It supports research, commercialization, and demonstration of low-carbon building solutions with $1.8 million in funding for the first intake, which ends July 31, 2019.

You can apply for 60% of costs with maximums of $30,000, $250,000 and $500,000 for research, commercialization, and demonstration, respectively. Projects must be based in B.C. and will be assessed based on low-carbon building design, construction practices or technologies in retrofit or new construction applications. Says the program guide: “Examples include: bench, field and market studies; development of net-zero energy ready building components, innovative heat pump and building envelope technologies; and net-zero energy ready and/or Passive House standard demonstration projects and programs.”

Eligibility extends to for-profit building sector organizations registered in British Columbia; Not-for-profit organizations that have offices and are active in British Columbia; British Columbia local governments, including municipalities and regional districts; and First Nations governments and organizations.
