After nearly 60 years in business, Universal Helicopters and its subsidiaries Lakelse Helicopters Ltd. and Lakelse Air have closed their doors. In a statement issued on May 27, the company announced that they “had reached this decision after working unsuccessfully with its banks to find solutions to stay in business”.

Universal helicopters was a member of HAC since the association’s inception, and the company has been represented by a Director on HAC’s Board for more than 20 years. In light of the company’s closure, Shane Cyr, Universal’s President & CEO recently resigned from HAC’s Board. The Board intends to leave the position empty until the election of Directors takes place in the run-up to HAC’s virtual Annual General Meeting in November of this year, on a date tbd.
