This is to advise that new standards amending the Airworthiness Standards (Part V) and the General Operating and Flight Rules Standards (Part VI) are now available in the CARAC Activity Reporting System for viewing.

These standards were made as a result of Notice of Proposed Amendment on Emergency Locator Transmitters (ELTs) posted on the CARAC Activity Reporting System in April 2017 as part of CARAC Activity #2015-014.

In summary, these new standards update the ELT maintenance requirements contained in Standard 571 (Appendix G) of the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) to include maintenance requirements for both 121.5 and 406 MHz ELTs. These new maintenance requirements include a 12-month operational test (on-wing) and a 24-month performance test (shop visit) for 406MHz ELTs, which takes into account the new technology used by the latest revision of CAN-TSO-C126.

These new standards become effective on August 1, 2019. The consolidated version of the Canadian Aviation Regulations standards will be updated to reflect these changes.
