Field Trials for Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) Remotely-Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) have been stalled while discussions over a mechanism for electronic conspicuity of the aircraft are discussed by the RPAS community, with NAV and Transport Canada. Originally discussions had centred on the use of ADS-B, as a mechanism for RPAS to be conspicuous, but some technical reservations have been raised that relate to availability – and the demand, for ADS-B in the context of the explosive potential for RPAS aircraft BVLOS, and the limited Bandwidth that is available currently for emerging ADS-B systems.
