BOMA BC engaged Deloitte to conduct an Economic Impact Study of the BC Commercial Real Estate Sector. The study spanned BC’s Office, Retail and Light Industrial subsectors and was based on data from the 2013 to 2016 period. Accounting for both direct and indirect economic impacts, it is estimated that the BC Commercial Real Estate Sector generates an annual contribution of more than $3 billion to provincial GDP, supports the employment of approximately 37,000 full-time employees and contributes over $2 billion to labour income. In addition, estimated revenue from property taxes is more than $1.3 billion for Metro Vancouver and Victoria alone, along with development charge revenue adding approximately $20 million in just the City of Vancouver.
